Denise was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. As a licensed hairstylist, she specialized in textured hair and encouraged women of colour to break free of racialized beauty standards. She began a YouTube channel in 2014 as ‘Zen Lioness’, documenting her loc journey, and later authored a book about loc care and holistic health titled The Secret to Luscious Locs.

With a B.A. in sociology from University of Toronto, she is pursuing a master’s degree in counselling psychology. She now uses her platform to speak about mental health and well-being, and strives to be a positive role model for her community. Her personal interests include art/diamond painting, plant-based cooking, and enjoying the outdoors.
